After getting your MSA for a "Go Racing" Pack” and getting the medical form signed by your doctor, you will need to take your ARDS (Association of Racing Drivers’ Schools) test.
Your ARDS session consists of an initial briefing with an instructor showing you the circuit, braking points and lines in a classroom situation. This is followed by the driving session, first with an instructor driving, you then get to drive under instruction, followed by your observed laps with no input from the instructor who is now your examiner! Assuming you have completed this it is back into the classroom to take the written test.
On succesful completion you will have your paperwork signed and can now give some more money to the MSA to get your first licence.
Don’t worry about the test, the written test will be no problem for anyone who has a keen interest in motorsport and the driving assesment is to make sure you can string a few quickish laps together without being a danger to yourself or others on the circuit, not to see if you will give Michael Schumacher a run for his money. Most people with reasonable ability and a sensible approach pass.
Don’t leave it until the last minute to book your ARDS test as they are only run on crtain dates and do get full, leaving you to scratch around for a place at any circuit that has one availble, not neccasarilly your first choice.
